Which is the Best San Diego Beach for You?

Different People Have Different Preferences for Beaches

There are some that may love Dog Beach to bring their dog, those that prefer to play volleyball or surf.  Here is a list of what each beach can offer you.

Oceanside City Beach

This place has space!  There is a full supply of sandy beach here with small crowd . This means easy access, no parking hassles, and plenty of room to spread out your beach towel.

Carlsbad State Beach

You absolutely have to stop by the Village after visiting the beach in Carlsbad, you couldn’t ask for a cuter place with shops and restaurants.  The north half of the Carlsbad coast is composed of a series of small beaches divided by sea walls. The cliffs here are relatively low and in most places the Coast Highway passes right next to the shore, offering an unobstructed view of the sea and open access to the beach, it’s a treat.

coronadobridgeLeucadia

This is located South of Carlsbad and is full of vintage stores, luxury homes,  and a strip of surf shops, taco shops, and restaurants along South Coast Highway 101. Excellent surfing, swimming, and fishing.

Encinitas

If you’re looking to play volleyball or have a picnic, this is the place to come.  Moonlight Beach in Encinitas is full of family, locals, and the athletic.

Solana Beach

I was actually surprised to see that Solana Beach has over 1.7 miles of beach and is broken up into 4 beaches with quite a bit of history.  You can see more at:

Cardiff Beaches

This is one of the beaches with the least amount of acreage, you can of course surf, swim, and walk.  Our favorite is a sunset dinner at the Beach House!

Del Mar Beaches

Grassy parks, playgrounds, recycling bins, white sand, clear water, fourth of July fireworks and horse racing.  Del Mar is a classic.

Torrey Pines State Beach and Park

Breathtaking!   Walking along the trails in the park first is highly recommended.  You’ll be astounded by the views.   Lots of wildlife and strong surf.

La Jolla Beaches

This beach itself is one of the main attractions for most turists in San Diego.  From whale watching to Seal Beach, it boasts a dramatic coastline.  More can be read about La Jolla Beaches at http://www.sandiego.org/article_set/Visitors/5/37

Pacific Beach

One of the most colorful and interesting beaches, this one is famous and infamous, it boasts so many fun activities such as ethnic festivals, concerts, bocce ball.  Definitely a spirited bunch!

Mission Beach

All kinds of entertainment here!  A wave machine, miniature golf, food, some have said that this is the closest thing to an East Coast beach like Coney Island.  Don’t miss the roller coaster!

Ocean Beach

Newport Avenue!  Unique is the first word that comes to mind!  From Tatoo parlors to vintage stores, to piercings, to dive bars, to burgers.  Ocean Beach has it’s own laidback and friendly personality.  Don’t miss the Chili Cook Off.

Sunset Cliffs

Sunset Cliffs is a rare stretch of Southern California Coast that has retained much of its raw and natural beauty.  This beach is better for sightseeing than swimming and laying out.  Beautiful views and amazing sunsets.

Coronado Beach

Popular beach for friends and family.  Kite flying, fire rings, surfing, and whale watching can all be done. Upscale restaurants, shops, and sunset drinks are all on the to-do list!

Each beach deserves it’s own post, share your memories or experience with us.
