Newest Mission Hills Hot Spots
In the midst of the crises, all the economy flurry, the crashing stock market, and the housing bust…there is a place, a place for you, a place that has flourished and has been the newest hot spot in town. Almost every website has written about it, so now it is my turn!
The Red Door, The Wellington, and Cafe Bleu
It’s amazing. I barely even remember what existed there before. Parallel 33, Jimmy Carter’s Mexican Cafe, and the Blue Lotus? Now I can’t imagine it without our three new hip spots. What a treat. So what is there to say about these new locals?
The Red Door
Neighborhood: Mission Hills
741 W Washington St
(between Eagle St & 7th Ave)
San Diego, CA 92103

I first dined here with my long time neighbor, friend, and client who frequents this locale practically daily. Of course, it had been on my list of places to go forever, and was especially intriguing since it is situatated directly across from Olivetto’s which opened and seems to almost already be closing with it’s lack of clientele.
There were three of us at dinner, we each ordered a glass of wine and were so shocked at the happy hour price that we immediately ordered another round, lol! The restaurant itself is intimate, cute, and modern all at the same time. I think that even if the wine had been price-y, just the decor sells it since you feel like somewhere that you’d like to stay and sit all night.
The Food
I had the salmon. My only issue with the menu was that there wasn’t a lot of “light” choices, it is more meaty and comfort food but that of course is a matter of choice. The salmon was topped with some spiced pear slices that nicely complimented it. The other guests had pork chops in maple syrup brine and a hamburger, which I was able to get a nibble of from them.
Everyone left with full bellies and happy, the bill was on the light side, the service was good and we agreed that we would return.
Now we have to try out the Wellington and Cafe Bleu, anyone want to join?
