How To Make The Perfect Breakfast

granolaI’ve never really  understood why people skip their breakfast. Personally, I love it! I often wake up early enough so that I can enjoy breakfast while everyone is still sleeping so that I have my “me time” before starting the day.
However, I know there are a lot of people out there who are rushed in the mornings and don’t have a lot of time to eat breakfast. So I’ve decided to share with you my favorite recipe for Golden Granola. I like to serve it with peaches, strawberrys and yogurt.

Golden Granola

This makes a big tray of golden, crunchy cereal – with none of the dusty floor sweepings often found in commercial versions. You can make your own mixture of fruit, nuts and seeds to suit your own taste. However, make sure you avoid poppy seeds unless you want to spend the rest of the day worrying about them being stuck in your teeth.

Ingredients

5 cups whole oats (sometimes called jumbo oats)
1 cup shredded coconut
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
1 cup golden sultanas
1/2 cup dates, roughly chopped
1/2 cup sesame seeds
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
125ml sunflower oil
1/2 cup dried apricots, roughly chopped
100ml honey
3/4 cup raw almonds, roughly chopped

How to Make

First of all, let the oven heat to 170C fan bake. Then melt the sunflower oil and honey together in a small pot over a Low neat. Get a large bowl and toss the dry ingredients together in it, then pour over oil mixture and honey.

Mix it well using hands while making sure that the dry ingredients are evenly coated. After that, spread the mixture on a large roasting dish and put it in the oven for about an hour. Stir every 15 minutes. It is very important not to make a phone call, watch TV, or play with the baby, as this granola can quickly turn from toasted to incinerated in just a few minutes.

After it gets golden in color, take it out from the oven and let it cool before storing it in an airtight container. It goes well with berries and yogurt, or you can eat it sneakily in handfuls from the jar.
