How Much Does a "Get Out of Jail Free" Card Cost?

Don’t you wish real life was like Monopoly and you could get one of these?

As a follow up to yesterdays post about Mr. Angelo Mozilo, former CEO and co-founder of Countrywide, and his troubles with the SEC I found out what the price of one of those Monopoly cards costs. Any guesses?

Well in this particular case it cost a mere $67,500,000.00. Why did I write the entire amount out? Let’s face it, that amount of cash deserves full text.

I’d feel bad for Mr. Mozilo but let’s not forget that part of the reason for this investigation was the selling of his Countrywide stock totaling $140 million dollars just before the company and it’s stock went belly up. Can you say insider trading? Does this mean no prison time?

Prison could still be in the future as the U.S. Attorney’s office continues their criminal probe in the collapsed company as well as some other civil cases still outstanding. For now it looks like prison time has been avoided which could have been a potentially severe outcome had a settlement not been reached. So the next time you’re facing prison time just write a check for the mid eight figures and call it a day….
