Are the Tough Economic Times Making Owning a Pet Difficult?

Have changes in your current economic status made it harder to keep your pet?

I was thinking about this and wondered about people who have come to the unfortunate realization that they might have to give up their pet.

It’s a tough and hard call to have to part with pets no matter how long you’ve had them especially if you’re blindsided by economic changes that force your decision.

After thinking about how horrible it must be to have to give up a pet because times are tough I looked around to see if there were any resources for people in this type of situation. After searching on the internet for a bit I was happy to find a couple of resources available to pet owners in distress. San Diego has a great Humane Society featuring the Gaines Campus at Gaines 5500 Gaines St., San Diego, CA 92110 (619) 299-7012 and the North Campus at 2905 San Luis Rey Rd., Oceanside, CA 92058 (760) 757-4357. I’ve visited the Gaines Campus and was impressed with the quality of the facility and the level of care and attention given to all of the animals being cared for there.

The San Diego Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation that receives no state or federal grant funding and relies on community support for funding.

San Diego’s support towards the Humane Society is great judging by how the facility has been improved throughout it’s history beginning in 1880. Any donation made to them, from the kind of money that jingles to the philanthropic,  is greatly appreciated.

There are several programs ranging from assistance with vaccinations, spaying and neutering costs, microchips for pet identification and recovery, food and supplies. Even financial assistance is available. You can read more on all of these great program on the San Diego Humane Society and ASPCA website which I’ve linked for every one’s convenience.

You and you’re pet aren’t alone. There’s help available to make it possible for owners and pets to stay together.

I hope this helps in preventing hearing stories about home owners who move out and just leave their pets behind to fend for themselves. All the best to you and your pets now and forever with two thumbs and paws up.
