What Does Brad Pitt Have to Do With Real Estate?

A lot! I’m not kidding. Let me explain.

When you first set out to buy your first home, or second home for that matter, you have certain expectations, I mean, you’ve heard a lot of news about how cheap everything is. California has been hit hard, you can walk down the street and buy a house in a day.

Exaggerated, I know. But you’ve got to hear some of the stories out there. It’s real estate, the news is always scaring us and everyone has an opinion.

So back to Brad.

The Brad Pitt effect begins with a homebuyer’s expectations. It’s like dating. Don’t we all expect a perfect 10? We’re going to marry Brad Pitt or George Clooney and he’s going to be the richest man in the world, have a BMW or Mercedes, a big house and a great personality, right? (Guys, work with me here. Maybe Jennifer Aniston? )

Then reality sets in. And you realize that you have to compromise. So this means that the expectation you had of meeting and marrying Brad Pitt changed a little. So what if Brad Pitt’s nose is too big, he’s a little shorter than you wanted, a little overweight and drives a Nissan? Actually you realize that he looks nothing like Brad Pitt at all, but who’s counting? Compromise…

Now let’s talk San Diego real estate.

Usually homebuyers set out with the expectation of buying a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2,000 square foot house, with tumbled granite, a swimming pool, a 2 car attached garage, with amenities, amenities, amenities in the most central and coastal areas of town for $100,000.00.

Prices have gone down, right?

Big sigh….yes they have. Sometimes you have to compromise though. Sometimes, especially with your first piece of San Diego real estate, you may need to get a 2 bedroom instead of 3, sometimes you’ll even need to make the decision whether you want a condo closer to the city or whether you want a house an hour away.

The good news is that even if your first or second home isn’t your “Brad Pitt”, with patience, time, and home appreciation, your next one could be.
