Times Square Bomber in Foreclosure?

That makes me sick.  I don’t know about you, but I do not take kindly to those of us that strap on bombs in New York, put them in their shoes, in their underwear, wherever they may want to put them, and just generally think that it is a great idea to bomb the New York subways and public areas.  I just don’t.  I recently went to New York for a week and while sitting in the subway, the thought crossed my mind of “what if” – what if today was the day that there would be another bomb attempt here….

Being in real estate in San Diego, I also do not love the number of people walking away from their house right now.  Some people have been through some genuine hardships and truly were victims of a lending industry that had made some serious flaws.  I’ve talked with these people, put their homes on the market, seen their pains, seen their childrens’ pains, had sleepless nights over it.  There are people out there that have lost their jobs, have health issues, and just cannot afford to continue paying a mortgage with the infamous “ARM”.

Nowadays however, there is also the new trend to just “walk away”.  “It’s a bad investment.”  “There’s no money in it now.”

If it is true that what goes up must come down, then the opposite must be true as well, don’t you think?   Go to Allied Gardens if you want proof that real estate appreciates over time.  Most of the homeowners are original owners.  They bought 40 years ago or so, most of them for the whopping sum of $14,000.00.  Now years later, they are dancing the jig even in a down market, ready to sell, retire, and downsize with a windfall from the sale of their house.

All this said, the bottom line is this: a home is a place to live, we all need one.  It is up to you whether you will rent or buy, either way you are paying a mortgage, it depends on whether you are paying your own mortgage or your landlord’s.  If you decide to buya home in San Diego, appreciate your home, it is not an ATM machine, and it will appreciate you too in time.
