Looking For Something Unique To Do This Weekend?

Ever experience a movie this way?

Do you live in the Mission Hills area? Need something to do this weekend? I recently rediscoverd this Mission Hills attraction and I felt I should share with all of you in case anyone needs a suggestion on something fun to do. I’m talking about The Cinema Under the Stars on Goldfinch St. just north of W. Washington.

As a resident and local REALTOR with Prudential California Realty I was walking over to our company’s newly reopened office at said corner. As I was walking back to my car I noticed  that the movie that night was the 1959 film “Some like it hot” with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon.  Filmed here in San Diego at the Hotel Del Coronado this classic is special to me because it was filmed here in my hometown.

This theater has been in the Mission Hills area for quite some time and is full of character and charm. Unlike mall theaters, where tickets cost $11.50 and they take credit cards, this small neighborhood theater  tickets cost $13.50 and it’s on a cash basis only. Also to ensure a seat, you have to do it the old fashion way and stand in line.

Places like these are few and far between and I think any neighborhood that has them is a lucky one. With the proliferation of large corporate chains offering goods and services at lower prices than the small family and local businesses this type of thing directly ties into my philosophy of supporting local businesses and services whenever possible. So give yourself a treat and take a walk through our neighborhood and see what’s new or rediscover our local attractions. You’ll be glad you did!
