Please Don't Be Afraid To Open The Door When I Knock
As a REALTOR one of the things we do as a way to get better acquainted with our neighborhood and our neighbors is to periodically knock doors. This is usually done in the neighborhood we reside in but it can be done in a different area of interest.
There’s nothing more nerve racking than to go up to a complete stranger’s door and ring that door bell. Has anyone else had a job that required this?
It’s an unnerving experience to put it mildly. Let’s face it, it’s not natural to pull over on any street, get out of one’s car and walk up to any door and knock. After all you’re a complete stranger and some people don’t exercise the same amount of courtesy as others.
I have a specific geographical area that I practice this aspect of real estate and as time goes by it gets easier because people start to get to know me and they are more receptive to me knocking on their door.
They also know that more than anything I’m not there to sell them something . I’m also not there to promote myself or tell them what a wonderful person I am. I think as people get to know you, they get a feeling for what type of person you are.
Nowadays people are more informed about their neighborhoods thanks to the age of the Internet. There’s really no need to boast about what house you just listed nor what house you sold in the area because odds are the residents in that neighborhood already know. There are plenty of websites that provide consumers with real estate data specific to their area. The data might not be completely accurate or current but they can get an idea of what’s going on.
So in closing I’d just like to let people know that if I come to your door I’m not going to try and sell you something nor am I going to recite some scripted dialogue that’s supposed to get you to refer me to your friends and family. The primary reason for me being at your door step is to get to know you and say hello. If anything I’m there to listen to what you have to say about the neighborhood and what can be done to improve it.
So keep an eye out for me walking about the neighborhood and I hope we get to say hello and talk for a bit. I’m always looking to meet new and interesting people with whom I have similar interests with and possibly making friends. I hope to meet some of you reading this and till then take care and be happy.
