Golden Hill 92102 – is a neighborhood of San Diego, California. It is located south of Balboa Park, north of Sherman Heights/Highway 94 (M. L. King, Jr. Freeway), and east of Downtown.

Golden Hill is one of San Diego’s most historic and architecturally eclectic zones, with many pre-1900 homes and apartments. In the 1910s, it became one of the many San Diego neighborhoods connected by the Class 1 streetcars and an extensive San Diego public transit system that was spurred by the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 and built by John D. Spreckels.

This neighborhood is also in walking distance of Downtown, City College and much of Balboa Park. Auto access is direct from freeways 5 and 94, The major through streets and bus routes are Broadway (East and West), and 25th Street and 30th Street (North and South). The Zip code is a portion of 92102. Pedestrianism, like in other urban mesa neighborhoods surrounding Balboa Park, is high relative to the rest of San Diego.

Artists and musicians have long favored the area more so since being priced out of areas like Little Italy, Eastern Downtown and Hillcrest. Golden Hill is home to Black Box Recording Studios, The Habitat Recording Studios, Los Reyes Mexican Food, Influx Cafe, Turf Supper Club, Krakatoa & Pizzeria Luigi (which was featured on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives)

Golden Hill is also host to two outdoor concerts a year, the Golden Hill Block Party and Kate Sessions Fest. The Golden Hill Block Party happens the last Saturday prior to Halloween. In 2006, the Kate Sessions Fest made its debut in Golden Hill Park. Both outdoor concerts are free, all-ages events, organized by local artists and musicians, featuring local bands.

The North Park 92104- sign can be seen at 30th Street and University Avenue, and this intersection is often considered to be the heart of the neighborhood. North Park includes the subneighborhoods of Burlingame, Altadena, and the Morley Field area.  Residents of North Park are served by a vibrant and active all-volunteer group, the North Park Community Association.

An eclectic array of restaurants, as well as independent coffee shops, can be found along the main arteries of 30th Street and University Avenue. The area is also dotted with bars and night clubs that cater to a wide diversity of patrons.

Downtown North Park contains the Ray Street Arts District. Ray at Night is a gallery walk held the second Saturday of every month in North Park. It is the largest and longest running art walk in San Diego’s history.

Nearby, the Birch North Park Theatre reopened after major renovations in 2005. It is the home of Lyric Opera San Diego.

North Park has a Farmers Market every Thursday at the parking lot located at University and 32nd Streets. The Spring/Summer hours are 3pm-sunset, Fall/Winter 2pm-Sunset. They feature over 35 independent vendors; locally grown produce/flowers; gourmet/ethnic foods; arts and crafts; books; and, often, live music.

City Heights 92105- is a large community in the eastern part of San Diego, California, known for its ethnic diversity. Along the main streets (which include University Avenue, El Cajon Boulevard and Fairmount Avenue) one can find Hispanic, White American, East African,  African American, Indian,  Middle Eastern, and Southeast Asian businesses.

Due to the large immigrant population of City Heights, a vast array of ethnic restaurants can be found in the community. Most are located along the main arteries of University Avenue, El Cajon Boulevard and Fairmount Avenue.

The annual International Village Celebration is held around late spring or early summer and is aimed at highlighting the community’s diversity.

Point Loma 92106- has an estimated population of 45,887 (including Ocean Beach), according to the 2000 Census. Point Loma is historically important as the landing place of the first European expedition to come ashore in present-day California. The peninsula has been described as “where California began”. Today Point Loma houses two major military bases, a national cemetery, a national monument, and a university, in addition to residential and commercial areas.

Ocean Beach 92107- is located in San Diego on the Southern California coast. It lies on the Pacific Ocean at the estuary of the San Diego River at the western terminus of Interstate 8.  It is approximately 7 miles (11 km) from Downtown San Diego.  O.B. is south of Mission Bay and Mission Beach directly north of Point Loma, and northwest of downtown. The O.B. community planning area is bounded on the north by the San Diego River, on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the east by Froude St., Seaside St. and West Point Loma Boulevard, and on the south by Adair Street. However, interpretations of neighborhood lines vary from OBcean to OBcean. (Residents of Ocean Beach often refer to themselves as OBceans, pronounced “oh-BEE-shun.

Earlier names for O.B. include Mussel Beach, Mussel Beds, Medanos (Spanish for ‘dunes’), Palmer’s Place/Ranch, and Palmiro’s.

The main street of business is Newport Avenue which has antique stores, restaurants, head shops, tattoo and piercing shops, coffee houses, bars, bike and surf shops, and an international youth hostel.Ocean Beach has three schools – Ocean Beach Elementary, Sacred Heart Academy (a K-8 Catholic school), and Warren-Walker (a K-8 private school). The community also features multiple churches, a public library, a U.S. Post Office, an independent supermarket, a vegetarian food co-op, and other amenities. Recreational facilities include the Ocean Beach Recreation Center, Dusty Rhodes Park, and the Robb Field athletic field and skate park.

 Local events include the Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cookoff in late June, a jazz festival at the foot of Newport in late September, the Ocean Beach Christmas Parade in early December, and the Ocean Beach Kite Festival on the first Saturday of March. Also, each Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m, two blocks of Newport Avenue are open to only foot traffic and bicycles for a farmers market.

The Ocean Beach Municipal Pier, built in 1966, is the longest concrete pier on the West Coast, measuring 1,971 feet (601 m).The pier, which includes a restaurant and bait shop, is located at the south end of the beach and is available to the public for walking and fishing 24 hours a day. A concrete walkway spans part of the length of the one-mile (1.6 km) beach.

The northern end of O.B.’s waterfront is known as Dog Beach, alongside the channel that empties the San Diego River. It has been set aside specifically for leash-free pets and their owners 24 hours a day.A commemorative plaque at the entrance lays claim to it being the first leash-free dog beach in the United States.

Ocean Beach and adjacent Point Loma are home to a sizable population of feral parrots and their offspring, known locally as the “O.B. air force.” The sub-tropical climate is nearly ideal for parrots. There are numerous trees for roosting, and plenty for the intelligent, omnivorous birds to eat. The parrots, mostly Amazons, are especially active and vocal at sunrise and sunset.

Mission Valley 92108- serves as an important shopping and entertainment center for San Diego. Some condominiums and apartments can be found in the area as well.

Three major shopping malls located in Mission Valley are Fashion Valley Mall, Hazard Center Mall and Westfield Mission Valley.  Many other commercial developments can be found in the valley as well, including smaller shopping plazas, auto malls and vocational schools. The frontage roads parallel to Interstate 8 west of Highway 163 are named Hotel Circle North and Hotel Circle South, for the many hotels and motels located on them. The frontage roads east of Highway 163 are called Camino del Rio North and Camino del Rio South. Qualcomm Stadium, home of the San Diego Chargers and the San Diego State University (SDSU) Aztecs football teams, is located in Mission Valley East near the I-8/I-15 interchange. At the outlet of Mission Valley lie SeaWorld, Mission Bay, and other San Diego attractions.

Pacific Beach 92109- is a neighborhood of San Diego, bounded by La Jolla to the north, Mission Beach and Mission Bay to the south, Interstate 5 to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west While largely populated by young people, surfers and college students, the population is becoming older, more professional, and more affluent due to rising property and rental costs. “P.B.,” as it is known as by local residents, is home to one of San Diego’s larger nightlife scenes, with dozens of bars, eateries, and clothing stores.

Old Town 92110-  San Diego State Historic Park, located in the Old Town  neighborhood of San Diego,  California, is a state protected historical park in San Diego.  It commemorates the early days of the town of San Diego and includes many historic buildings from the period 1820 to 1870.

 Five original adobes are part of the complex, which includes shops, restaurants and museums. Other historic buildings include a schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, San Diego’s first newspaper office, a cigar and pipe store, houses and gardens, and a stable with a carriage collection. There are also stores, with local artisans demonstrating their craft. There is no charge to enter the state park or any of its museums.

Linda Vista (Spanish for “Pretty View”) 92111 is a community in San Diego, California, United States. It is east of Mission Bay. north of Mission Valley, and south-east of Tecolote Canyon. It lies on a mesa overlooking Mission Valley. It is also home to the University of San Diego.

Many of the homes in Linda Vista were built in 1940 as part of a government project to house aircraft workers for the war effort.

Logan Heights 92113 is a neighborhood in central San Diego, California. It is bordered by Interstate 5 on the south and west, Interstate 15 on the east, and Imperial Avenue on the north.

In 1871, Congressman John A. Logan wrote legislation to provide federal land grants and subsidies for a transcontinental railroad ending in San Diego. A street laid in 1881 was named Logan Heights after him, and the name came to be applied to the general area. Plans for a railroad never successfully materialized, and the area was predominantly residential by the turn of the century, becoming one of San Diego’s oldest communities. Its transformation began in 1910 with the influx of refugees of the Mexican Revolution, who soon became the majority ethnic group. For this reason, the southern part of the original Logan Heights neighborhood came to be called Barrio Logan.

Encanto 92114 is a hilly neighborhood located in the southeastern part of San Diego, California. The neighborhood of Encanto is split into two sections, North Encanto (which lies north of Broadway), and South Encanto (which lies south of Broadway).

Normal Heights 92116 is a neighborhood of the mid-city region of San Diego, California. It is known for its affordable pubs, restaurants, coffee houses, antique shops, book shops, and burgeoning arts community.

Like other urban mesa neighborhoods north of Balboa Park, Normal Heights has a high rate of pedestrian activity and a unique mix of nationalities relative to the rest of San Diego. The Adams Avenue Roots Festival is typically held the last weekend in April, featuring American, Latin, British, and various other European folk styles played live for free. Art Around Adams is a local community art event where unique and talented artists showcase their work inside and outside interesting little businesses and spaces along Adams Avenue. Clairemont 92117 is a suburban neighborhood in northern San Diego.

It includes the separate neighborhoods of North Clairemont, South Clairemont, Clairemont Mesa East and Clairemont Mesa West. It is bordered by State Route 52 in the north, Interstate 805 in the east, Interstate 5 in the west, and the neighborhood of Linda Vista on the south.

Coronado lies on a peninsula connected to the mainland by a 10-mile isthmus called the Silver Strand (locally, The Strand.) University City (UC) 92122 is a community in San Diego, California, located in the northwestern portion of the city next to the University of California, San Diego. It is also often mistakenly referred to as UTC, short for University Towne Center, which is actually a shopping mall in the community.

University City’s economy is anchored by the University of California San Diego campus which forms the north part of the community. Southern areas of University City are composed of a mix of single family homes, a retirement community, and a few condominiums. The north-central area, known as the “UTC” area is composed of a dense mix of condominiums and apartment complexes.

Besides containing three local shopping centers, there is also a large regional shopping mall referred to as UTC. This University Towne Center shopping mall is located north of Regents Road in University City. It is anchored by Sears, Nordstrom and Macy’s. The north-eastern mesas of University City started to be developed for industrial and corporate use in 1991, and are home to several biotech, computer and financial companies. The northern part of University City also contains two major hospitals, Scripps Memorial and UCSD’s Thornton Hospital, with surrounding medical office buildings. North UC was developed primarily in the 1980s and 90s, and rapid growth and development continue.

Tierrasanta 92124,  Spanish for “holy land,” is a community within the city of San Diego, California. The symbol of Tierrasanta is an encircled Conquistador cross, similar to the Montserrat Cross of Barcelona, Spain, though it holds no religious meaning. The community is referred to as “The Island in the Hills” by locals and on welcome signs.

The community has a branch library, jogging/biking trails, and several baseball and soccer teams. Music falling under the categories of jazz and instrumental concert band is quite prominent in addition to the numerous physical sports teams.

Mira Mesa 92126 is a large suburb that is part of the city of San Diego, California.

Mira Mesa is bordered by Interstate 15 to the east, Interstate 805 to the west, the Los Peñasquitos Canyon to the north and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, to the south. The west end of Mira Mesa is a business and technology park, often referred to as “Sorrento Mesa”. This area is a major employment area for San Diego.

Since its inception, Mira Mesa was largely influenced by the military located at adjacent NAS Miramar. Mira Mesa was the northernmost “real community” of San Diego, and was separated from the rest of the city by NAS Miramar for many years. For nearly 30 years the Navy’s Top Gun School was located here and most of the pilots made their homes in Mira Mesa.

San Ysidro 92143 is a community in the southern section of San Diego. It is located in the southernmost part of San Diego County, immediately north of the U.S.-Mexico border.  It neighbors Otay Mesa West to the north, Otay Mesa to the east, and Nestor and the Tijuana River Valley to the west. Major thoroughfares include Beyer Boulevard and San Ysidro Boulevard.

San Ysidro is home to the world’s busiest land border crossing, where U.S. Interstate 5 crosses into Mexico at Tijuana. In the 2005 U.S. fiscal year, more than 17 million vehicles and 50 million people entered the United States at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.The great majority of these are workers (both of Mexican and U.S. nationality) commuting from Tijuana to jobs in the greater San Diego area and throughout southern California.

Paradise Hills 92139 is a neighborhood in the southeastern area of the city of San Diego, California. It is an outlying neighborhood adjacent to the independent city of National City and the unincorporated communities of Lincoln Acres and certain portions of Bonita.

Demographic statistics are only available for the wider 92139 ZIP code which includes all of Paradise Hills and a portion of neighboring Bay Terraces; in this ZIP code, people of Asian or Pacific Islander heritage make up the plurality of residents (37.2%, most of which reside in adjacent Bay Terraces), followed by Hispanics of all races (29.9%, with the majority residing west of Dusk Drive), non-Hispanic Whites (14.9%), and Blacks (12.6%).

Otay Mesa 92154 is a community in the southern section of the city of San Diego, just north of the U.S.–Mexico border.  It is bordered by the Otay River Valley and the city of Chula Vista on the north, Interstate 805 and the neighborhoods of Ocean View Hills and San Ysidro on the west, and unincorporated land of San Diego County on the north and east.
