New Trend in Homes Goes to Less is More

Will we ever see homes of this size become the standard again?
Do buyers still want that 2600sq.ft. home with the large yard? There’s a new trend in real estate and it’s going in the direction of smaller. From young buyers to middle age to seniors. The days of the McMansions are over and people are trying to do more with less. The first obvious reason for this is of course price. Consumers are trying to save money wherever they can and this is a great way to do just that. A home is usually one’s largest expense and any saving here can be huge.
Younger buyers for one can’t afford large home from the onset so they’re naturally looking for small urban dwellings that can save them money on gas and such by being able to walk to most anything they need. Newer construction, at least here in San Diego, had been designed with functionality in mind. Most condo towers downtown have retail on ground floor offering everything from coffee, dry cleaning, pet care and much more. Read the rest of this entry »
Ever Wonder if Your Local Gas Station Has the Best Prices?

Would you like the cheapest gas at your fingertips?
Ever drive by another gas station and realize you just paid too much for gas? How often does this happen to us? We do more than our fair share of driving thus fuel prices are be important to us. I would say that the average agent goes through a tank or so a week. What if you could save yourself a $2.00, $3.00 or $4.00 per tank? That would be nice right? So how do you find out who has the prices around?
This is a cool tool that I’ve been using for quite some time and it has come in handy and saved me as much as $4.00 per tank of gas. The way I find the best gas prices is through a website called Gas Buddie. It’s available in most cities and is named after the specific city you reside in. For example, here it’s called San Diego Gas Prices and the sponsor is listed as Gas Buddie. Read the rest of this entry »

Looking For Something Unique To Do This Weekend?

Ever experience a movie this way?
Do you live in the Mission Hills area? Need something to do this weekend? I recently rediscoverd this Mission Hills attraction and I felt I should share with all of you in case anyone needs a suggestion on something fun to do. I’m talking about The Cinema Under the Stars on Goldfinch St. just north of W. Washington.
As a resident and local REALTOR with Prudential California Realty I was walking over to our company’s newly reopened office at said corner. As I was walking back to my car I noticed that the movie that night was the 1959 film “Some like it hot” with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemon. Filmed here in San Diego at the Hotel Del Coronado this classic is special to me because it was filmed here in my hometown. Read the rest of this entry »
Is The Price of Money Going Up?

How much more will your mortgage cost?
Are you still considering jumping into the San Diego real estate market? Well if you’re still on the fence you’re going to want to read this post. Just today I read a piece in the newspaper that stated that mortgage rates rose slightly. Is this another reason to move forward with that home purchase you’ve been trying to time?
I wish I had a crystal ball and give all of you a definite answer but what I do know is that your mortgage rate can affect how much home you can afford. I know one certainty, and that’s that a person’s mortgage determines where they live. Now is an incredible time in history when it comes to low mortgage rates and this should entice buyers to purchase. At no other time in history has there been a better time to become a home owner especially somewhere like here in San Diego. Read the rest of this entry »
Which Real Estate Data is Most Accurate and Properly Represents the Real World?

In real estate trends, who's right, who's wrong and who's just plain lost?
Are you or anyone you know confused about the current San Diego real estate market? With every article the confusion grows because they all seem to have varying perspectives on the market. Whether you’re buyer or seller, which one can you trust? I read from various sources of real estate data to get as large a cross section view of the market as possible.
We’re all familiar with sources such as Realtor.com, Zillow.com and NAR (National Association of REALTORS). The thing we have to understand that the they all arrive at their conclusions, which they then publish, by different data processing methods. This can contribute to the confusion because more often than not each source can come to a completely different inference. Read the rest of this entry »
