New Trend in Homes Goes to Less is More

Will we ever see homes of this size become the standard again?
Do buyers still want that 2600sq.ft. home with the large yard? There’s a new trend in real estate and it’s going in the direction of smaller. From young buyers to middle age to seniors. The days of the McMansions are over and people are trying to do more with less. The first obvious reason for this is of course price. Consumers are trying to save money wherever they can and this is a great way to do just that. A home is usually one’s largest expense and any saving here can be huge.
Younger buyers for one can’t afford large home from the onset so they’re naturally looking for small urban dwellings that can save them money on gas and such by being able to walk to most anything they need. Newer construction, at least here in San Diego, had been designed with functionality in mind. Most condo towers downtown have retail on ground floor offering everything from coffee, dry cleaning, pet care and much more. Read the rest of this entry »

Would You Use an Auction Service to List Your Home Instead of an Agent?

Would this work in the San Diego real estate market?
How many of you have attended an auction of some sort? I attended one once as a research project for a buyer that wanted to bid on a home that had gone to auction. One thing I learned is to bring your patience and be quick on your feet. The pace of some of these auction is so feverish that if you leave to use the restroom or get a cup of coffee you just might miss out on bidding on the property you wanted to buy.
California, and it’s current real estate market, are often at the forefront and test ground for many new and innovative marketing strategies so it’s no surprise that San Diego will be the test site. I guess this is just another sign of how the economy and current housing market inspires people to come up with new ways of doing things.
Ever Wonder if Your Local Gas Station Has the Best Prices?

Would you like the cheapest gas at your fingertips?
Ever drive by another gas station and realize you just paid too much for gas? How often does this happen to us? We do more than our fair share of driving thus fuel prices are be important to us. I would say that the average agent goes through a tank or so a week. What if you could save yourself a $2.00, $3.00 or $4.00 per tank? That would be nice right? So how do you find out who has the prices around?
This is a cool tool that I’ve been using for quite some time and it has come in handy and saved me as much as $4.00 per tank of gas. The way I find the best gas prices is through a website called Gas Buddie. It’s available in most cities and is named after the specific city you reside in. For example, here it’s called San Diego Gas Prices and the sponsor is listed as Gas Buddie. Read the rest of this entry »
Halt the Foreclosures?
GMAC reported that it has halted certain evictions and sales of foreclosed homes while it corrects a “potential issue” in its foreclosure process.
According to the Federal National Mortgage Association the action that GMAC is taking emphasizes a problem that has been growing for banks that may have ILLEGALLY driven homeowners out of their houses.
Ugh. Anyone feel like sleeping on the concrete?
Great Charity Event Here in the Mission Hills Area.

Food, music and charity in one? Sounds good to me!
Do you like to have fun and give back to the community at the same time? I would say most of us do. Looking for something to do in the upcoming weeks I came upon a local event that I think should be great. It’s the fifth annual so we can safely say that the past years events have been a success.
The name of the event is “Fruit of the Soul” and it’s going to be held at Specialty Produce over on Hancock St. We should all try and do something to make the world a better place and I think this is an excellent opportunity. I’ve posted complete information and I hope to see some of you there. Read the rest of this entry »
